Buses in Delhi
One of the cheapest means of transport in Delhi is the local buses. In fact, the capital is one of the largest bus transport systems in India. Almost all buses in Delhi are either owned by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) or the private contractors. The bus rates apply for 2, 5, 7 and 10 rupees. A lot of time back, the government introduced environmentally friendly CNG buses in the city that are now fully taken over.
Taxis in Delhi
Taxis are easily available in Delhi. The taxis are usually carried out by DTC, the Indian Tourism Ministry and several private operators. They are available for both local commuting and long-distance use. One must however be in the taxi or call a taxi service provider by telephone to rent them. Taxi’s are also a bit expensive in Delhi.
Auto Rickshaws in Delhi
Auto Rickshaws fall between taxis and buses. They are more expensive than buses but cheaper than taxis. They are also easily accessible because they can be marked off the road. One should, however, be careful when renting cars. This is because most car drivers refuse to pick the meter. If this happens, you need to bargain a bit and pre-fix before renting the car.
Travel by Metro in Delhi
Delhi’s local transport features the relatively introduced Delhi Metro. Metro has not yet reached all parts of Delhi, but it is under construction and some routes have been completed and are already operational. The price of Metro is reasonable and the trip is a pleasant experience.
